Ukraine Has ‘Fought Russia to a Standstill’

Ukraine Has ‘Fought Russia to a Standstill’

US President Joe Biden is going to have to “think harder” about what sort of support the West can provide to Ukraine, says ASPI’s Executive Director Peter Jennings.

“Because so far, they’ve (the Ukrainians) fought the Russians to a standstill, they’ve done brilliantly - better than anyone expected,” Mr Jennings said.

“I think they are going to continue to stop Russia from being able to take Kyiv, the capital, and really limit Russia to doing things like using these hypersonic weapons.”

Russia will just change up tactics and keep trying. They don’t care about losing battles, they are in it to win it in the overall war. Belarus is now ready to invade Ukraine along with the Syrians and a few other mercenary soldiers. Ukraine is as well and will hopefully continue to get support.

Zelenskyy has the numbers. Europe has the space to train and equip  soldiers before they return. Driving Russia out is an option, especially if the Chechens have another crack at independence. I hope  the three ships travelling from Eastern Russia sink.

Ukraine has responded to the Russian invasion with spectacular courage and passion. Accordingly, they have had good success to date. Their success is solely as a  result of strong support from all those countries sending weapons, munitions and humanitarian aid to enable them to continue. Without continuing support, it will surely become "game over" very quickly. Surprisingly, the Ukraine forces have managed to stall the Russians at many locations. Worryingly, Russia has become desperate, upping the game to include hypersonic missiles, taking out strategic locations. Will international support correspondingly increment to meet the increased challenges? Currently Ukraine has no way to counter the heavier artillery. Without additional support, Ukraine will surely start to falter. Is the world happy to stand by and watch that happen? It is a lot to lose having come his far. It now seems clear that Putin is not going to negotiate anything, he understands only one tactic, annihilation. An appropriate response is surely needed, anything less has already proved  ineffective.
