Why Won’t Serbia Condemn Putin’s War?

Right-wing extremists in Serbia are celebrating Putin’s war in Ukraine. They see NATO as the enemy because of its bombing campaign during the Kosovo War. Many Serbs have not forgotten.

My deceased parents were sadly in Ukraine during WW2, and having experienced Holodomor prior to that. They escaped the Soviets, with a cart and a cow, always staying ahead of the Soviet front moving from East to West, via the Balkans.

Without getting into politics, Serbia supporting Russia should come as no shock to anyone. Russia has ALWAYS had Serbia's back, and their close ties were even a factor in starting WWI.

Serbia is portrayed as victim, but no one will forget what atrocities they did to their neighboring countries in Yugoslav war, what they did in Srebrenica, Vukovar etc. They have killed many innocent people and children.

As a Bulgarian I should clarify that NATO attacked Serbia because of the Kosovo war and the hundreds of people the Serbian killed in that war. I like Serbia, but it is not fair to deny the truth.

That’s ok, next Putin will come to Serbia to fight Nazism and Serbians can meet his army with flowers and warm bread, he might want some of Serbia’s territory for safe keep.

Damn, I did not expect this from a European country so geographically close to Russia. I mean, not even the Chinese were willing to expressly support Russia, they've been wishy-washy at best.

As a Serbian, I am ashamed we did not condemned Russian war against Ukraine, Vucic stated fur support for Ukrainian serenity and that was it. I can just add that out current president has a much more backing from Germany and France than Russia. For every government in Serbia fore support is essential. What I am trying to say European countries should not back autocrats and populist, it destroy our faith in European values here in Serbia.
