Pottinger: China’s Strategy To ‘Quietly’ Support Russia Is ‘Not Working’

Former U.S. Deputy National Security Adviser Matt Pottinger discusses China's approach to handling Russia's actions in Ukraine on MTP Daily.
I get that Beijing will agree to buy Russia's oil. My question is how do they actually do this in the short term? They don't have any large pipelines in place (they do have a very small one way out in the far east). It takes years to build a pipe line. Tankers will only be able to move a small fraction of what Russia was selling to the West. Further, with Exon, Shell and Haliburton all gone from Russia, as their systems (drilling rigs, refineries and pipelines) require maintenance and repairs and parts, isn't Russia sol? The reason these companies were in Russia is because Russia lacks the expertise to do this on their own. It seems to me a more likely scenario is that the Russian oil fields will fail, and China will end up getting less oil than they are currently getting from Russia.
Sure, China can share responsibility for murdered civilians. Tienamen Square is a great example, as are Uigher "re-education" camps, etc. They share a common disregard for human decency...
One must consider the wants, desires and aspirations of the Chinese people… but Xi, not so much!

The west has elevated China’s economy and their standing in the world, by outsourcing middle class jobs and allowing deficit domestic spending to flow directly into their infrastructure and military.

In return, they have stolen what we would not sell, undertaken a path of domestic subversion and repression, and failed to keep a lid on fatty in NKorea.

Their comes a point where China’s usefulness upon the global stage lacks furgilqty and we must treat them as onerous as they seem to strive to be.  I’m all for offering a helping hand, but when you use my largess as a tool to subvert global stability, it’s time to cut the cord!
